Top 7 Charity Team Building Activities & Events
What is a Charity Team Building Event?
A charity team building event is an activity where colleagues work together on a project or challenge that results in a charitable contribution. Charity activities usually include volunteering time, building equipment for a cause, or sourcing and donating items for those in need. Regardless of the chosen activity, the aim is to participate in a project that gives back to the community while improving teamwork, strengthening relationships and boosting employee morale.
Incorporating a charity cause into your next team building event can enhance team motivation and create a lasting sense of accomplishment, knowing that your efforts are making a genuine difference to the lives of others, locally and globally.
Why host a charity team building event?
Charity team building events offer employees a chance to participate in a meaningful shared experience where they learn to collaborate effectively, build trust and develop a deeper sense of purpose, leading to a more motivated and engaged workforce.
At GOTO Events, we’re passionate about the impact that team building can have on charitable efforts. That’s why, we’ve been working hard to increase our corporate charity events portfolio, offering a diverse range of engaging activities where teams can bond while making a real difference.
7 Charity Team Building Activity Ideas
1. Charity Bike Build - Build a bike for a child in need
Bicycles provide children with freedom, playful discovery and often, an essential means of transport for commuting to school. Unfortunately, not all children have the opportunity to own a bike, especially in rural parts of Africa where many of these charity bikes are bound for.
GOTO Events’ Charity Bike Build is more than just a team building exercise, it’s a chance to make a real difference in a child’s life. In this unique charity team building event, your team will assemble brand new children’s bikes that will be donated to underprivileged children through one of our selected charities, or a charity of your choice.
In order to earn the parts for the bikes, there are a series of mental and skill-based challenges and tasks that teams will need to complete. Safety briefing and expert guidance are provided throughout the activity to ensure the bikes can be safely used. As part of the team building challenge, teams will also be provided with the creative resources to add their personalised message onto their bike.
At the end of the charity activity, the completed bikes, soon to be cherished by children in need, will be presented in front of everyone to admire. After this, GOTO Events will collect all the bikes and donate them to the chosen charity.
In our Bike Build corporate charity event, not only will you experience the satisfaction of teamwork and problem-solving, but you’ll also leave the event with an undeniable sense of accomplishment, knowing you’ve positively impacted a child’s life.
2. Gift of the Gab - The ultimate charity scavenger hunt
With the cost of living crisis putting a strain on many charities, essential resources are more crucial than ever. GOTO Events invites you to participate in a meaningful charity team building activity that combines resourcefulness, collaboration and the joy of giving.
Our Gift of the Gab team building event is a charity scavenger hunt challenge that gives corporate teams the chance to step up and make a real difference while having fun and working together. Your team will be tasked with going around the town and sourcing specific items needed by our partner charities, from toothbrushes and hairbrushes to clothing and food. But there’s a twist! Negotiation skills will be key as you strategise to acquire items within the allocated budget.
The team who collects the most items within the budget will be the winner. But this exciting corporate charity day is more than just a competition. It’s a chance to bond with your team, test your creativity and ultimately, contribute to the wellbeing of those in need. Get you negotiation skills ready and find out more about our Gift of the Gab charity team building event.
3. Putt For a Purpose - Build-and-play charity mini golf
Supporting worthy causes not only benefits those in need, but also fosters a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose within a team. This feel-good factor is central to the experience we’ve created at GOTO Events with our Putt for a Purpose charity team building event. This game of mini golf isn’t like any you’ve ever played before! We have taken the traditional game of mini golf and added a fun and charitable twist.
Instead of playing on a pre-made course, teams will build their own mini golf holes using materials from their supply pack or the creative zone such as cans and cereal boxes. Unleash your imagination and collaborate with your team to design and construct a challenging and fun hole.
Once all the holes are built, it’s time to test your putting skills and compete for the winning title. But the fun doesn’t end there! After the game, the team dismantles the course and all the materials used will be donated to a family in need or a charity of your choice. This sustainable aspect adds another layer of meaning to the experience, allowing you to combine your competitive spirit with charitable giving. Each task you complete earns you vital items to fill your care package which will later reach someone in need.
This unique charity team building activity allows you to bond with your team and make a real difference in someone’s life, as the care packages will be distributed to individuals around the nation who need your help!

5. Paws For a Cause - Designing equipment for animals in need!
Many animal rescue shelters and sanctuaries rely on charitable donations to provide animals with a comfortable and enriching environment. In the UK, dedicated charities are struggling to provide furniture and feeders to the animals in their care.
GOTO Events’ Paws for a Cause is designed as a unique team building event that combines the joy of helping animals with the satisfaction of creating something tangible together. This charity activity allows your team to directly contribute to the welfare of animals in need by building feeders and furniture for local shelters.
This charity team building event starts with your host introducing you to the animal shelter you’ll be supporting and the specific needs of their furry residents. Next, your team will be guided through the planning stage where you will brainstorm ideas with your team. Then, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and build essential items for the animals, prioritising both safety and functionality.
Once each team has finished building their creations, the items will undergo safety checks and will be delivered to the shelters and installed for our furry friends to utilise. After the event, your team will receive a heartwarming video to showcase firsthand how the animals are using their creations.
Calling all animal lovers! Are you ready to make a difference to the life of animals in need? Find out more about the Paws for a Cause charity team building event.

Why Every Organisation Should Have a Company Fun Day and How to Make It Happen
Employee engagement and job satisfaction are critical for any organisation’s success. However, research shows many employees are not fully engaged at work. A Glassdoor study found 53% of employees say work culture significantly impacts their engagement and satisfaction. Additionally, a Gallup report revealed only 8% of staff are positively engaged, 57% are not fully engaged, and 35% are disengaged.
To boost employee engagement and satisfaction, consider having regular company days out with your staff. These activities can strengthen relationships, improve morale and make work more enjoyable. To help you out, here are some things to consider when organising a company fun day, team away day or team building activity.
What are Company Fun Days?
Company fun days are lighthearted events organised by a company for its employees and sometimes for employees and their families. Generally held off-site, company fun days can involve games, challenges or simply mingling over good food in a fun environment enabling people to relax outside of the everyday workplace. They are an ideal way to boost morale, increase motivation and show appreciation to employees for all their hard work.
Why Should Your Organisation Plan a Company Fun Day?
Organisations who host company days out will experience a multitude of benefits such as staff networking, interaction, team engagement and increased productivity. Company fun days are also a chance to get to know employees you may not always see on a day-to-day basis, and could be especially beneficial for teams working remotely or across separate offices and departments.
Corporate fun days are now a regular part of most organisations’ annual calendars as an important part of the modern-day company culture of fun, reward and celebration.
How Do You Choose the Right Venue for A Corporate Day Out?
Venue and location play a key part in any corporate event. The style of venue can increase the impact of the event, with the likes of country house hotels and sports stadiums providing the perfect backdrop.
GOTO Events works with over 1000 venues across the UK, from the impressive Tylney Hall in Hampshire to the famous Twickenham Stadium. Our large portfolio of venues means we can guarantee to find the perfect venue for your corporate fun day within 15 minutes from your office. These games not only promote teamwork but also encourage effective communication and collaboration in a fun and interactive way. Below we will explore some of the best indoor team building games that can help foster communication and collaboration within your team.
Top 5 Indoor Team Building Games for Communication and Collaboration
#1 Chain Reaction
Chain Reaction is an exciting and engaging team-building activity that fosters collaboration among the guests. Teams come together to construct various components of a mechanical story, which not only connect but also seamlessly integrate with other teams’ contributions in a chain reaction, culminating in a complete and cohesive tale.
Equipped with the necessary tools, each team is assigned different sections of the “chain” and tasked with communicating effectively and collaborating with neighbouring teams to successfully accomplish their mission.
This event is perfect for nurturing team relationships and fostering effective communication, making it an ideal choice for a challenging yet enjoyable corporate away day. Typically conducted over a few hours, Chain Reaction can be seamlessly incorporated after a conference or as an engaging afternoon activity away from the office.
#2 Masterpiece
Introducing the Masterpiece Challenge, a team building activity that ignites creativity and fosters collaboration by painting the bigger picture.
Your group will be divided into teams of 6 to 8 individuals, each assigned to a set of canvasses. The teams not only engage in the act of painting but also embark on a series of mini challenges to earn the supplies. These tasks encompass a wide array of activities, including logical quizzes, puzzles, mental challenges, visual tasks, and even elements of engineering. By successfully completing these challenges, teams acquire their crucial blueprints, and paints to aid them in their quest to realise their masterpiece.
The resulting masterpiece never fails to leave guests awestruck, as the standard of the results is consistently exceptional.
#3 Rollercoaster Tycoon
Get ready to immerse yourself in the thrilling world of a theme park as you embark on an extraordinary creative activity! Your mission: construct a fully functional rollercoaster that propels a ball along its track for a minimum of 45 seconds. Brace yourself for an adrenaline-pumping adventure filled with twists, turns, and heart-stopping moments.
This event is all about the collaboration, where teams join forces to achieve a common objective: building an awe-inspiring rollercoaster structure. The twist, however, lies in the fact that each team is responsible for constructing their own section of the track. Constant communication is key as they must ensure seamless integration between their sections, fostering a sense of unity. Together, these teams work harmoniously to create a colossal masterpiece that unites at the grand finale.
#4 Putt For A Purpose
Get ready to raise your clubs high in anticipation of our exciting charity team building event! Prepare to experience mini golf like never before. We’ve taken the beloved classic game and infused it with a charitable twist. Get ready for an unforgettable adventure that blends team bonding with a socially responsible outcome, creating a truly enjoyable charity team building program.
The race is on as teams gather the necessary materials, combining them with a touch of creativity to construct their mini-golf masterpieces. Once the sections are completed, every team will have the opportunity to play the full golf course, putting their skills to the test. The teams with the lowest combined scores will be crowned the victors, showcasing their prowess on the mini-golf course.
As the event draws to a close and the winning teams are celebrated, the GOTO Events team will diligently dismantle and pack up the course. But the story doesn’t end there—these items will be donated to the designated charity or a deserving family in need. Through this act of kindness, the event not only fosters team spirit but also leaves a lasting impact on those in need.
#5 Charity Bike Build
If you’re seeking an activity or experience that not only promotes team unity and purpose but also contributes to a meaningful cause, then look no further than our charity team building experiences. We collaborate with numerous charities worldwide, ensuring that each experience is deeply intertwined with their mission.
Our most popular charity event revolves around teams constructing bicycles from scratch, but it encompasses much more than that! Before diving into the building process, teams must engage in a series of engaging games, tasks, and challenges to bike parts. Many of these activities are directly linked to the skills necessary for bike assembly and maintenance.
Teams are encouraged to build each bike with their unique touch, leveraging a variety of creative resources to fuel their imagination and personalise their creations.
Once completed, all the bikes are presented, allowing teams to admire and appreciate each other’s efforts. After the event every bike is generously donated to one of our nominated charities or a charity of your choosing, ensuring that these vehicles bring joy and support to those in need.

Top New Virtual Team Building Events for 2023
Top New Virtual Team Building Events for 2023
As strong believers of getting out of the office, we also understand that this is not always possible! Whether it be uncontrollable external factors, or travel limitations your global team might be facing, you can still get together as a full team even if you’re not physically together.
Over the last few years, we have found that team building activities are the perfect way to boost morale, ease new starters into a team, provide a much-needed break from the day-to-day work life, and even more. Even if you and your team are unable to come together in person, there are a wide range of virtual events that are still able to provide that social interaction and team bonding that can benefit everyone when they return to the workplace.
Gone are the days of joining onto a group call with your entire team that begins with glossed over and tired eyes. With different themes, challenges, and games, our virtual events are guaranteed to lift the mood and get everyone interacting with one another for some team building, no matter the distance.
You’ve probably seen the boom of virtual events across the web over the last few years. The ability to tweak and re-design these events promotes a range of different benefits, and their popularity has grown exponentially. Not only are you able to join in through the comfort of your own home or from the office, but there are also various virtual events that incorporate your external environment. Alternatively, if you don’t have the supplies needed and readily available, our dedicated projects and operations team will be able to support you from start to finish.
Top 4 Benefits of Virtual Team Building Events
#1 Engage With Remote Workers
The recent changes in the working environment have meant that many teams either work fully remote or with a form of hybrid working. We have found that corporate virtual team building events are a great way to engage with remote workers, no matter where in the world they are. Bringing your team together is a great way to keep up to date on ongoing projects that you probably are not involved in, but with the added benefit of a fun, exciting event with challenges to release your competitive side.
#2 Improve Important Transferable Skills
The lack of body language and other physical social cues over virtual meetings has indicated the importance of better communication online. The use of virtual events can provide you and your team with the transferable skills needed to work better together and collaborate efficiently from a distance. Whether that be co-working on a project, managing time effectively, and finding ways to communicate a point across, each of these are integrated within our virtual events to give you a fresh view on improving these skills with games and challenges.
#3 Zoom Fatigue Reset
Connectivity is amazing, but it can be draining and become mundane. We have found that due to how frequently Zoom and other online platforms are used, many employees are starting to feel disconnected and lost behind a screen. Introducing a virtual event and different activities that break the Zoom routine of client calls, or remote meetings, can help to bring something exciting to look forward to for everyone on your team. Give your Zoom experience a reset with something out of the ordinary.
#4 Accessibility
Perhaps you have members on your team that have accessibility needs, or members on the team that would struggle to meet even in a centralised location. The benefit of virtual events is that it is easily accessible by all. All you need is a device, an internet connection, and our team will be available to support you from start to finish. If you are unable to leave your house to gather items to support with the virtual event, fear not! Our projects and operations team can get these delivered to you ahead of the day.
